a possibility - The Syntax Of Things

Now if somebody could just explain to me where that came from, please?

Fact is: I’m really happy today as a lot of good things happened (Inma’s letter arrived and I got praised for my writing and it’s summer finally) but then my brain decided no look actually let’s write the depression anthem. I hope you can enjoy still, because if it weren’t for the incredibly weariness in it I’d really like the song. And I still really do like the harmony for some reason.

This song is rather new and fresh, though the theme has been existing for a little longer already. For once, I’m actually (if not proud of, at least still) okay with the outcome, plus, it’s even a happy tune! And, it’s 4min+, which is very rare, I can assure you. Do tell me how you like it!

Where do you get inspiration for most of your songs? I've been wondering this ever since, like, The Chase.

That’s a great question because it’s also the one that I’ve been asking myself ever since then and naturally also way before.

The long answer would go back into my childhood, cover the better part of my youth and end with what I’m doing presently.

The short answer is: I have no bloody idea.

Seriously, I don’t. I can’t control it in the least. All I can say is that I’m lucky enough to be able to write one or two songs every now and then. There’s actually a lot of things that can inspire me, pretty much everything that happens to me or people close to me, or people I don’t even know, or nature or future or the past. I’m a person to generally wonder a whole lot, so that’s where most of my songs come from. That, and like so many things it literature (and just about any art form I believe, though I do it on an easier level) the relations and links between two objects, thoughts or people. Well, that’s what I’m hugely interested in and fascinated by. But just because I’m inspired doesn’t necessarily mean I’ll be able to be creative. As I mentioned, I can’t control it in the least, I sometimes often feel like my own slave, which I probably ought to change sometime soon we’ll see how that turns out. I can’t even properly tell you where my inspiration comes from. I can look at the same things, and one time they’ll inspire me, and another, they won’t - it’s all about how you look at them. On some days I’m too tired to see, others I’m too awake, like everything else in life, it’s a damn fine line.

(I’m sorry this probably isn’t what you expected and did you know I’ve always been meaning to ask the Coldplay Oracle the exact same question…)

Linguistics by The Syntax Of Things (which is now me, cucumberbatchin)

First of all, thank you all for being so patient and I’m sorry I haven’t uploaded anything for the past two months or so. I have been writing songs, some of my best I believe, and that’s exactly why I want to be careful with publishing them. I want them to be the best I can manage.

As for this one, it’s another piano piece. And with all the essays, commentaries and other stuff that I have been writing lately, the title isn’t even far fetched. Please do tell me how you like it! :)

Here’s the soundcloud link with a download!

My artist name is now The Syntax Of Things!

My blog name and everything else will stay the same (though I’m working on additional sites, where I’ll publish my songs [once those sites are ready])! There’s not gonna be any big changes, it’s just so you know, because from now on ‘cucumberbatchin’ will only be used for fandom songs~

The name is (as I’m sure a lot of you will notice) taken from the cummings’ poem ‘since feeling is first’, where the term itself is used in a negative way.

since feeling is first
e.e. cummings

since feeling is first
who pays any attention
to the syntax of things
will never wholly kiss you;
wholly to be a fool
while Spring is in the world

my blood approves,
and kisses are a better fate
than wisdom
lady i swear by all flowers. Don’t cry
—the best gesture of my brain is less than
your eyelids’ flutter which says

we are for each other: then
laugh, leaning back in my arms
for life’s not a paragraph

And death i think is no parenthesis

While the poem itself is no doubt beautiful, I still don’t agree with the first stanza, because to me, paying attention to the syntax of things, is a vital part of living and thinking. And well, that’s why seemed very fitting for an artist name! :)

Bonus fact: A new song is about to be uploaded!

Which of my piano songs do you want transcribed?

I might be leaving for a holiday, but that’ll give you more time, and I’ll have a look at the messages afterwards! Since cyan-013 recommended me musescore [thanks a bunch, again!] it’s been so incredibly easy to create sheet music! :) So, if you want any of my songs transcribed (well, the piano ones preferably :D), just drop me a note and I shall have a take at it!

Already in progress and/or finished [but not yet uploaded]:

  • Help Me, I’m a Doctor [courtesy the amazing cyan-013]
  • Upon arriving, I found a Dead Bird [also thanks to cyan-013 - you are heavily awesome, honestly]
  • Molly’s Theme

Lyrics to ‘You got back on’

If you go you go, you’re gonna get back on, nothing that could hold you back
If you go you go, you’re gonna get back on, nothing can hold you back

You’re tumbling, you’re crumbling, you’re stumbling to the ground
Clumsy and irregular, you make a screeching sound
And as you turn your back, I fall to pieces
And as you turn your back, you lift your head

And as you go you go, you’re gonna get back on, nothing that could hold you back
If you go you go, you’re gonna get back on, nothing can hold you back

Take my sleeve, grab my coat, hold on, and now don’t let go
And as you turn your back, I fall to pieces
And as you turn your back, you lift your head

And if you go you go, you’re gonna get back on, nothing that could hold you back
If you go you go, you’re gonna get back on, nothing can hold you back
And if I go I go, I’m gonna get back on, nothing that could hold me back
If I go I go, I’m gonna get back on, even you can’t hold me back

You got back on - Original Song

I probably shouldn’t like Nouvelle Vague as much as I do (primarily talking about the font here, though the band is no less amazing), anyway: Another short song, finished quite a while ago, never found the time to upload it though.

I saw my soundcloud hadn’t been updated for a while, so I decided to publish it at last! This might be the first of my songs to genuinely and completely have been written from another person’s point of view. I had fun with imagining to be someone else’s mind :)

As always, downloadable at soundcloud.

I actually can't express how much I adore your music. I've downloaded nearly all of it now, and I was just wondering if it'd be possible to have the lyrics to Mad Detectives On The Run? I can't seem to find any anywhere.

I just quickly wrote those down, here they are! (And thank you so much! :)

Mad Detectives On The Run

Night and day fade into one, I feel too old, I feel too young
The only solace coming from mad detectives on the run

London’s streets, cold in front of my eyes
The soil is cracking up, the sun is burning off the skies
Last bits of green will surely vanish into sand
Burglars and villains in my head hand in hand

Night and day fade into one, I feel too old, I feel too young
The only solace coming from mad detectives on the run

Lyrics to ‘Coco’

(Here’s the song, warning, schmoop. For realz, this time.)

You were leaning against  a coconut tree
Wide open arms said ‘Come at me’
You were humming, then suddenly say
‘Let’s get together into the waves’
I might catch you, if you fall
I might also, not care at all
Just be prepared for whatever may come
We’ll swim towards the fast setting sun

Go on, I might need your arms every now and then
Won’t be long, just be there whenever I need a helping hand
Go on, I might need your shoulders ever other day
Don’t despair, just like everything else it will eventually fade away

We could be together, swirl up the sea
We could stay forever, just you and me
For as long as it’d be
We’d be
